The usage settings defined in a build configuration tell Game Server Hosting how many resources each server has access to when running the linked build. The resources include the CPU speed and the memory.
- CPU speed: The CPU frequency defines the CPU frequency in megahertz (MHz).
- Memory: The memory defines the amount of RAM (random access memory) in megabytes (MB).
The usage settings, along with the specifications of the machines within the fleet, define the fleet’s server density.
Before you define the usage settings, you should know approximately what your build executable consumes in resources. The ideal values for the usage settings are values that reach a balance between server density and server performance.
You might have to adjust usage settings several times before finding the ideal value. If you notice that servers running this build configuration lag or exhibit performance issues, increase the CPU or RAM. You can increase server density by decreasing the CPU or RAM if your server performance is acceptable. See Calculate usage settings.
