Game image management

Note: The content on this page pertains to Managed Game Server Hosting (Clanforge). If you’re using Game Server Hosting (Multiplay), refer to the Game Server Hosting (Multiplay) documentation.

The game image installation system monitors the supported profiles of the fleet and the accompanying game images. When Game Server Hosting detects a profile change, the system installs, reinstalls, or uninstalls game images as specified by the profile configuration.

When you update your game, you have the option to push a full image update or a differential update, which has only the differences between the previous version and the new version. Differential builds allow you to update your game faster than full image builds; however, using a differential build also means that the game image takes up more disk space on each machine.

Over time, large game images can lead to slower scaling because of the time to download and install the image on ephemeral cloud instances. To optimize scaling times, it’s crucial to deploy a full image update periodically to reduce the total size of your game image archive.
