Slow game image installations

Note: The content on this page pertains to Managed Game Server Hosting (Clanforge). If you’re using Game Server Hosting (Multiplay), refer to the Game Server Hosting (Multiplay) documentation.

In most cases, a game image installation shouldn’t take longer than five to 15 minutes. However, the installation time depends on the size of the game image and the distance between the mirror machine and the game server machine.

The following list details of some common reasons why it might take longer than expected to install a game image.

  • The game image is exceedingly large.
  • There’s low disk space on the machine.
  • The mirror machine is experiencing network problems.
  • You’re updating many machines simultaneously.

The easiest way to prevent slow game image installations is to regularly “roll up” your game images. Rolling up your game images increases the time to update a game image, but reduces the time to install a game image on an ephemeral cloud machine, which can speed up scaling into the cloud.
