Add a single asset

How to add an individual asset to your Unity Asset Manager Project so that you can make it more discoverable and share it with friends or colleagues.

Conceptually and hierarchically, Unity Cloud Assets are the highest level entity in Unity Asset Manager.
Every Unity Cloud asset is a composition of datasets and metadata. Datasets are themselves a composition of files or references to other files.
When you create a Cloud asset, the system automatically creates a source dataset. This contains a preview dataset in which you can upload or index files.
The Cloud asset is added in a single Asset Manager project, from which you can browse and filter your assets from the Asset Manager UI, developer interfaces, or the Unity Editor with the Asset Manager for Unity integration.
Your role within an Asset Manager project determines permissions you have for viewing, downloading, or editing Unity Cloud assets.

Prerequisites

Before you start, make sure you meet the following prerequisites:
  • You have the Contributor or higher role in the Asset Manager project where you will add content.
Read more about user roles and permissions in Asset Manager.

Add an asset

Adding a Unity Cloud asset to an Asset Manager project typically involves signing into Unity Cloud, selecting the file you want to upload as an Unity Cloud asset, and then editing its metadata that the system uses to make it discoverable and accessible.
You can add Cloud assets from:
  • The Asset Manager Web
  • The Asset Manager for Unity package
  • Developer tools (API, SDK, PythonSDK, CLI Tool)
  • Integrations with Unity Asset Transformer Studio or Blender

Add a Unity Cloud asset from the Unity Dashboard

To add a new Unity Cloud asset:
  1. Make sure that you're signed into the Unity Dashboard with the correct user account, and that you have selected the project and the collection to which you will add the new asset.
  2. In the project, select Add Asset.
  3. Add files in Source Files. For this you can either:
    • Drag and drop files or folders from your local disk.
    • Browse your local disk by selecting Upload and what you want to upload between files or folder.
    • Index files from your UVCS repository to avoid duplicating the content. For more information, see Unity Version Control.
  4. Customize the preview of your asset. You can:
    • Generate the previews using the built-in transformations. Note that for single file asset upload, preview generations are triggered automatically.
    • Upload your own preview files (see supported list of image, video or 3D preview formats.
  5. Customize the metadata of your asset:
    • In the Name field, enter the name of the asset.
    • In the Type drop-down list, select the asset type.
    • Select the status of your asset (by default it's in draft).
    • (Optional) In the Description field, enter a description.
    • (Optional) In the Tags field, enter descriptive tags. You can use the Generate suggested tags from the previews.
    • (Optional) In the Assets Details section, select the + Add Metadata button to add custom metadata.
  6. (Optional) Create a new dataset in your asset to represent another variant of your asset, for example uploading your raw file.
  7. Save your changes. This creates a new asset version for this cloud asset.
  8. (Optional) You can link you asset to a project or to a collection.
警告
Uploading large number of files through the web can be risky. The recommended best practice is to limit your web upload to 500 files max with a 20GB limit only. Alternatively, upload using Unity Version Control and then index your files.
