Bulk edit assets

Use the bulk edit feature to update metadata, statuses, and classifications for multiple assets within a project.

The bulk edit feature in Unity Asset Manager allows contributors to edit metadata for multiple assets at once, making it easier to manage large asset collections. With this feature, you can efficiently update metadata such as tags, descriptions, labels, and asset types from within the Asset Manager user interface. This improves team workflows by eliminating the need for manually updating assets individually and providing powerful tools to apply changes to multiple assets simultaneously.

Prerequisites

Before you start, make sure you meet the following prerequisite:
  • You have the Contributor role's permissions on all selected assets.

When to use bulk edit

You can use bulk edit to do the following:
  • Add or update metadata, such as tags and labels, for consistency.
  • Remove or replace outdated metadata.
  • Change the status of multiple assets, such as marking them all as Published.
  • Correct asset types across a collection for better categorization.
참고
Bulk Edit does not support changing asset names. This prevents accidental overwriting and maintains metadata consistency.

Bulk edit assets

1. Select Assets

  1. Go to the Project page in Asset Manager.
  2. Select multiple assets using the checkboxes next to each asset.
  3. You can select assets across collections, but all assets must belong to the same project.
참고
Use Smart Views and filters to group assets before initiating a bulk edit.

2. Start Bulk Edit

  1. After selecting assets, the Bulk Edit button appears on the top of the page.
  2. Select Bulk Edit. The side panel appears.

3. Choose Metadata to Edit

On the side panel, define the changes to apply across the selected assets. The following operations are available:
  • Version Labels
    • Add version labels.
    • Remove specific version labels.
  • Descriptions
    • Add a new description (replaces existing descriptions).
    • Clear the description field.
  • Type
    • Change the asset type, for example, from Texture to Material.
  • Status
    • Update the status, for example, change from Draft to Published.
  • Tags
    • Add new tags, existing tags remain unless replaced.
    • Replace all existing tags.
    • Remove specific tags.
    • Clear all tags.
  • Custom Metadata
    • Add new custom metadata fields without overwriting existing ones.
    • Edit specific metadata fields.
    • Remove specific metadata fields.
참고
If you’re making large-scale edits across thousands of assets, break the operation into smaller batches to prevent errors or UI delays.

4. Confirm and Save

  1. After defining your changes, select Save Changes.
  2. A notification appears at the bottom of the screen indicating progress.
  3. Once the operation is complete, the changes are applied to all selected assets.
참고
Asset versions are automatically frozen upon saving changes.
참고
Bulk edits are saved immediately. If you need to undo changes, perform another bulk edit to correct them.
중요
  • Project-Level edits only: Bulk editing is restricted to a single project. You can’t edit assets across multiple projects at once.
  • Locked asset selection: Once a bulk edit is initiated, selected assets remain locked until the operation is completed or canceled.
