Deallocations

A deallocation is a request to remove an allocation from Game Server Hosting’s orchestration platform. You can request the deallocation of an allocation by sending a request (with the allocation UUID) to the Server Deallocate endpoint. The deallocation process doesn’t directly shut down a game server instance. After a game server instance is deallocated, it's ready for the next allocation request. If the platform determines that the capacity is no longer required, Game Server Hosting shuts down the instance to reduce costs. Refer to Cost optimization.

You should request a deallocation in the following scenarios:

  • A game server instance hasn’t returned a heartbeat in over 120 seconds
  • Players never joined the allocated game server instance
  • A game server instance crashed or reported an error
  • The allocated game server instance is no longer required
