Name a step
Learn how to provide a custom name for a step.

It's optional to name a step. By default, a step’s name is the same as the action it uses. You can give steps custom names to help distinguish between steps that use the same action and to make their purpose clearer to collaborators. Step names appear in the following areas:
- The pipeline builder
- Step dependencies and output parameter references
- Job details
To give a step a custom name:
- Select the step in the pipeline builder.
- In the Step Parameters tab, select the pencil icon next to the current step name.
- Enter a new name for the step.
- Select the checkmark button.
The step is now renamed to the custom name you provided.
