Choose a placement method

When you place your model, you align a specific location in your model to the corresponding location on the site. This becomes your starting point for moving around the model.

To select the best method for your situation, an initial site visit is recommended. You should know the characteristics of the model and the site.

There are four types of placements:

  • AR markers

Place the model by scanning a printout of an AR marker on the site that corresponds to the AR marker created in the model using the VisualLive plug-in. See AR markers.

Note: Place the AR markers at every 100 feet to make it easier to load models whenever you enter a new area or model space.

  • Two-point placement

Place the model by matching reference points created in the model (using the VisualLive plug-in) to the corresponding points on the site. See Two-point placement (Reference points).

  • Anchor lock search

Place the model by scanning an anchor lock saved in the model during a previous session. See Anchor Search (Anchor locks).

  • Manual placement

Manually align the model to the site using the model alignment tools available in AR mode. See Manual placement.

Important: During placement, you must be able to physically access the locations where you want to align the model. You must be able to position yourself so that the device is either within 12 to 18 inches from an AR marker, or within a few feet of alignment points or anchor locks. For more information, see Move into position.
