Export a model to VisualLive

Prepare your model

Before pushing a model to VisualLive, follow the instructions in Prepare your model for VisualLive to create all necessary markers and worksets.

Important: Keep the plug-in window open until the export is complete. If you close the window before VisualLive finishes uploading your model, you will lose all the settings you entered.

Log in to the VisualLive plug-in

To log in to the plug-in:

  1. From the VisualLive tab in Navisworks or Revit, click VisualLive Tools.

    The VisualLive toolbar in Navisworks

    The VisualLive toolbar in Revit

  2. In the plug-in window, click **Login **and enter your VisualLive credentials.

Select and identify the model

Select project

By default, the plug-in exports data to your personal VisualLive project. To select a different destination project, click Select Project and choose from the list of available projects.

Select model

By default, the plug-in exports data to a new VisualLive model. To overwrite an existing model, click Select Model and choose your destination model from the list.

Name and describe your model

Type a model name and optionally a description. You may find it helpful to note which settings you used to push the model when differentiating your uploaded models in the future.

Place markers or reference points

From the plug-in, you can set up your model for either AR markers or two-point placement. For information about which placement option to use and where to place your markers, see Preparing for Augmented Reality (AR).

AR markers

  1. From the VisualLive plug-in window, click Place Marker.

  2. Click + and then click Pick Marker Point.

  3. Place the marker in your model following the guidelines in Prepare for Augmented Reality (AR). Repeat for additional markers.

  4. Print your markers at 100% scale and cut around the outside of the black line.

Note: You can also download the markers to print later, but you'll need to place the physical markers in the corresponding locations on site before you scan and load your model.

Reference points

From the VisualLive plug-in window, click Pick two points and place your reference points following the guidelines in Two-point placement.

Select worksets (Revit)

If you created worksets as described in Prepare a model for VisualLive, click** Manage Worksets** and select your desired categories, 3D views, and schedules (Revit), then click OK.

**Note: **Only Revit worksets must be selected before clicking Push Model. If you are exporting from Navisworks, select your worksets in the next step.

Push the model

In the plug-in window, click Push Model and enter your model settings.

Select model settings (Navisworks)

Extraction method

The VisualLive plug-in for Navisworks lets you choose between the following:

  • VisualLive extraction
Allows models to be fully optimized for VisualLive.
  • Native Navisworks extractionDoesn't retrieve information like layers and metadata, but may help reduce file size for very large models or in other specific use cases.

Level of Depth (LOD)

Stands for Level of Depth It will determine how your model will be grouped together and which properties will go through. Click and drag the LOD slider to the left for less detailed layers or to the right for more detailed layers.

Export Section

Export Section is used to prevent any unnecessary geometry from being pushed with the rest of your model. Since Navisworks section boxes do not cut geometry or automatically hide geometry, this is a quick method to hide geometry that is outside the current section box when export.

Note: This only works for the section box that is currently active while pushing the model. This means that the Export Section option does not work with multiple viewpoints.

Properties

Navisworks creates properties based on the LOD you decide to push with. If a property is not on the aligning LOD, then it is not exported.

Note: If you have previously added properties to your model as described in Prepare a model for VisualLive, properties come from your selections in Selection InspectorQuick Property Definitions. To export these properties with the model, make sure **Push parameters to cloud **is checked on the main plug-in window.

Layers

Selection trees correspond to LODs. You can decide how detailed your layers are based on how many LODs you push.

Select model settings (Revit)

Adjust the Quality Settings slider to the desired level:

SettingDescription
GoodNeeded for larger models to help it push faster
BetterMore detail is kept in the model but may take longer to load
ExcellentModel will stay very detailed but may take very long to load

Select upload method

SettingDescription
Push to cloud

Exports the model to the VisualLive cloud server. This is the best option for model sharing and data transfer.

Push to your deviceExports the model directly to your device through your own network. Models are stored inside the application's Sync folder.
Push to FTP Server

Exports the model through your own FTP server.

Note: This option is not enabled by default and must be enabled by VisualLive developer support.

Pushing a model through our plug-in links your model to your VisualLive account. As soon as an export is complete, you can access all of the model's AR markers within the plug-in and can open the model on VisualLive for Mobile or HoloLens.

Model loading and verification

Wait for the model to upload. This may take up to 10 minutes for large models.

Important: Keep the plugin window open until you receive the upload notification. If you close the window before the upload is complete, you will lose all the settings and marker placements you entered.

A pop-up window notifies you when the upload is complete.

An email notification is also sent to the address linked to your account.

If you placed AR markers in your model, the upload verification window includes the option to print them now or download them to print later.

Note: Even if you close the verification window, you can print AR markers for any uploaded model from the plug-in window or the web portal.
