Some Unity Version Control (VCS) features in the Unity Editor require you to have a VCS desktop app installation.
To install the VCS client from the Unity Editor:
- In the Editor's Unity Version Control window, select the cog icon.
- Select Open in Desktop App.
- Select the Download Cloud Edition.
To install the VCS client directly, refer to Download the desktop client.
Features
The desktop app provides additional VCS functionality to the Unity Editor.
- View diffs for changesets.
- Use the workspace explorer.
- Use the branch explorer.
- Get notifications and alerts.
- For example, if you check in files without a comment, the desktop app notifies you and gives you the option to cancel and add a comment.
