If you're a member of an organization that has a floating license subscription, you can use the license checkout feature to work offline.

Prerequisites

The license checkout feature has the following requirements:
  • A subscription to a Unity plan that includes floating licensing.
  • Unity Hub version 3.8 or later.
  • Unity Licensing Server version 2.0 or later.
  • A supported Unity Editor (2020.3 or later).
  • A licensing server and a licensing client (your computer) that have been configured to enable license checkout. For details, refer to Unity Licensing Server documentation.

Check out a license

To check out a license to work offline:
  1. Select the Projects tab.
  2. Select Work offline. If this button isn't displayed, or if it's disabled and has a warning icon, then one or more prerequisites are missing.
  3. In the Work offline dialog, review the offline period. If needed, select a different number of days where you can use Unity offline.
  4. Follow the remaining prompts, then select Borrow.
When the request is successfully processed, you will receive a message confirming the offline period.

Check the status

During your offline period, the Work offline button shows a clock icon.
You can check how much time you have remaining on your license checkout by hovering over Work offline. You can also check remaining time from the Preferences window (gear icon > Licenses tab).

Updating the checkout period

While working offline, you can adjust the license checkout period, if needed.
  1. Select the Projects tab.
  2. Select Work offline. The Work offline dialog appears.
  3. Update the offline period.
  4. Follow the remaining prompts, then select Update borrow.

Returning your checked out license

Your checked out license remains locked until the end of the checkout period, even if you're not using Unity. If you finish working offline before the end of your scheduled checkout, consider returning the license. This action releases the license back to the pool of available license for others in your organization.
  1. Select the Projects tab.
  2. Select Work offline. The Work offline dialog appears.
  3. Select Return license.
