Choose the right device

Your hardware determines the maximum file size you can load. In general, newer devices support larger files than older devices, and tablets support larger files than smartphones. More powerful devices are capable of loading more objects in a scene while maintaining a high frame rate.

LiDAR

Devices with LiDAR produce the best results in VisualLive for Mobile. Under optimal conditions, a model and site can be aligned to an accuracy of 1/16 of an inch. Devices with LiDAR can produce comprehensive scans of the environment with more options for alignment than devices without LIDAR.

Limitations for devices without LiDAR

Devices that do not support LiDAR can be used, however, the scans they produce are less comprehensive:

  • The device recognizes flat planes only. It cannot recognize objects, unless they are quite large. For example, the square base of a large column might be recognized, but a chair seat probably would not be.
  • The device cannot recognize planes further than five or ten feet away. Despite this limitation, walking around and scanning the entire site helps maintain alignment.
  • Recognition of anchor locks is unreliable. Anchor locks allow you to save alignment points in the model for future sessions.
  • Maintaining alignment is more challenging, and the preparation of the site and the alignment of the model on it can require more steps.
