Choosing a campaign type

Different advertising campaigns have different goals. The default campaign type optimizes for acquiring users. Use other campaign types to optimize for particular kinds of users.

For example, you can create campaigns with goals like the following:

  • Target users who are more likely to engage with your app for seven or more days.
  • Target users who are more likely to generate revenue by watching ads or making in-app purchases. Choosing the right goal is the first step in creating an effective campaign.

Install campaigns

Install or Cost-per-install (CPI) campaigns are the default Unity Ads User Acquisition campaign. This campaign’s goal is to generate as many installs for your app as possible.

Audience Pinpointer campaigns

The goal of an Audience Pinpointer campaign is to acquire different kinds of high-quality users. Refer to the following table for which types of users each Audience Pinpointer campaign targets:

Campaign typeGoal
Ad Revenue ROASAcquire users who are more likely to watch ads in your app.
In-app Purchase ROASAcquire users who are more likely to make in-app purchases.
RetentionAcquire users who are more likely to continue engaging with your app for seven or more days.
EventAcquire users who are more likely to make specific actions or reach milestones in your app.

To enable Audience Pinpointer campaign goals in the User Acquisition campaign setup, you must pass post-install events to Unity and run Install or Creative Testing campaigns until you meet your desired campaign type's eligibility criteria.

Unity supports post-install event passing through the Unity Ads SDK, or selected MMP integrations. For more information, refer to the Post-install event documentation

Creative testing campaigns

This campaign’s goal is to provide an equal exploration of your creative packs for experimentation. Each creative pack receives an even number of impressions within a timeframe of your choice.

Use this campaign goal type when you want to compare how your creative packs perform with a particular audience so you can improve your user acquisition strategy. To learn more, refer to the Creative testing campaign documentation.
