Most modern Android devices have a hardware-provided acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) capability. If the target device provides hardware echo cancellation (HEC), then it can filter out all audio that is produced by the device from the capture device stream.
The resulting quality and behavior from using HEC can differ across various Android devices. On some devices, stereo playback is downgraded to mono, including Vivox positional channels. Using HEC could also reduce CPU and battery consumption.
