With Unity Ads, ad units and placements are the building blocks you start with in your project setup in the Unity Monetization Dashboard. Ad units designate the spot in your app to show ads, while a placement determines which ads are shown there to optimize revenue for your app.
Learn more about ad units, placements, how they work based on your monetization setup, then create and manage them in the Monetization dashboard, before implementing them in your app code.
Note
Waterfall placements are no longer supported being phased out. Starting August 11, 2026, you can no longer create new waterfall placements. Any placements not converted to bidding or archived by this date will no longer be editable, but will continue to serve ads.
The recommended approach is to transition to in-app bidding placements before the deadline, as follows:
  • If you use Unity Ads as your only ads provider, migrate from Unity Ads to LevelPlay.
  • If you use Unity Ads as part of a mediation stack, set up Unity Ads as a bidder within your mediation platform. This method might require an app update depending on your mediation partner’s requirements for supporting Unity Ads bidding.
In both cases, update your placement IDs to support bidding in the Unity Monetization Dashboard and your mediation setup. Refer to Transition waterfall placements to bidding to update your waterfalls to bidding to maximize app revenue.
