Members, groups, and roles

Members are the individual users that participate in your Organization. The Organization Owner can add or remove members, assign them permission-based roles, and separate them into groups for organizational purposes.

Adding members

To add a member to an Organization from the Unity ID portal:

  1. Select Organizations from the left navigation menu.

  2. On the Organizations page, click on the Organization you want to edit, or select its settings icon.

  3. In the Members & Groups section, click See all.

  4. Click + Add members.

  5. Enter the email address(es) of the member(s) you want to add. Separate emails with a space, comma, or carriage return.

  6. Assign the invited member(s) an Organization role. You can edit these roles for individual members later.

  7. Optionally assign invited member(s) to a group.

  8. Click Next to invite the new member(s).

Assigning member roles

Member roles define permission settings for individual Organization members. Some features are gated behind role requirements. To assign a member a role from the Unity ID portal:

  1. Select Organizations from the left navigation menu.

  2. On the Organizations page, click on the Organization you want to manage.

  3. In the Members & Groups section, click See all.

  4. Click the edit icon for the member you want to assign a role.

  5. Select a role from the drop-down menu, then click Save.

There are four possible roles (Owner, Manager, User, and Guest), each with different permissions:

Project-level roles

Organization members with the User role must be assigned to specific projects in order to access them. Owners can assign members different roles for specific projects, according to their level of involvement.

To manage access and roles for a specific project from the Unity Dashboard:

  1. Select Projects from the primary navigation menu.

  2. Select the project you want to manage.

  3. Select Project Members from the secondary navigation menu to see a list of Organization members associated with the project.

The Project Members page allows you to add members to the project by email, Organization member, or Organization group. Inviting someone to your project from outside of the Organization gives that person access to that specific project only, with no access to Organization and subscription information. The same applies to Organization members with the User or Guest role.

You can also manage existing members’ seats and roles. To change a member’s project role, select a new role from that member’s Access Level drop-down. Note that you cannot assign members a lower access level than they have with the Organization.

By default, all members of the project have the same role that they’re assigned for the Organization. Any changes made on the Project Members page only apply to permissions for the specified project and will not impact member roles for the Organization as a whole.

Note: Because each project can have different services enabled and each project is tied to an Organization, only that Organization’s Owner can enable and disable services for its associated projects. Regardless of your subscription tier or seat, you need certain roles or permissions within an Organization to use Gaming Services products or view related data on the Unity Services Dashboard.

Grouping members

Create member groups to organize your team and quickly assign roles in bulk. To group Organization members, navigate to the Organization’s Members & Groups page, then click Create group.

After you name the group and click Create, you’ll be able to add members to the group.

Removing members

To remove an Organization member or group, navigate to the Organization’s Members & Groups page, then click the X icon next to the member or group you want to remove.

Exporting member lists

To export a list of your entire Organization’s members to an .xlsx file, navigate to the Organization’s Members & Groups page, then click Export members.

To export a list of a specific group’s members, click the download icon () next to the group you want to export.

The resulting file includes member emails, user names, user IDs, and roles.
