Configure AppLovin for Unity Mediation

Publishers can use Unity Mediation to load and display ads from AppLovin through waterfall mediation.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, create an AppLovin account: https://dash.applovin.com/signup.

If your game is made with Unity, install the AppLovin Adapter to your project:

  1. Open your project in the Unity Editor.

  2. Select Edit > Project Settings > Services > Mediation or Services > Mediation > Configure.

  3. In the Adapter Configuration section, find the AppLovin Adapter and select Install.

    Note: Installing the AppLovin Adapter through the Unity Editor also pulls in the AppLovin SDK.

Create a Zone in your AppLovin account

To create a Zone in your AppLovin account, complete the following steps.

  1. Sign in to your AppLovin account: https://dash.applovin.com/login.

  2. In the left navigation menu, select AppDiscovery > Zones.

  3. Select Create Zone.

    Note: A Zone in AppLovin is the equivalent of a waterfall in Unity.

  4. Enter the name for your zone, and then select a platform and ad type.

  5. Determine the pricing of your zone:

    • Flat CPM is the equivalent of Unity’s sort by eCPM target waterfall grouping

    • Optimized by AppLovin is the equivalent of Unity’s Auto – eCPM (backfill) grouping

  6. Select Save.

Retrieve your AppLovin credentials

To connect the Unity Mediation platform with the AppLovin ad network, you need to retrieve unique identifiers from your AppLovin account.

  • Use the Report Key to import performance data from your AppLovin account for reporting and optimization purposes in the Unity Dashboard.

  • Use the SDK Key to initialize the AppLovin adapter for your app.

To retrieve these identifiers, complete the following steps.

  1. Sign in to your AppLovin account.

  2. In the left menu, select Account > Keys.


Configure the AppLovin Ad Source in the Unity Dashboard

To configure AppLovin as a third-party Ad Source in Unity Mediation, complete the following steps.

  1. On the Unity Monetization Dashboard, select Mediation > Ad Sources.

  2. Find AppLovin in the list of Ad Sources and select Activate.

  3. Complete the fields with the credentials from your AppLovin account:

    • In the Report Key field, enter the AppLovin Report Key.

    • In the SDK Key field, enter the AppLovin SDK Key.

    • Enable the Reporting Access Authorization checkbox.

  4. Select Complete.

Create an AppLovin line item

Prerequisites: Create a waterfall, Configure the AppLovin Ad Source, and Install AppLovin Adapter and SDK

To create an AppLovin line item, complete the following steps:

  1. On the Unity Monetization Dashboard, select the Waterfalls page, and then select the waterfall that you want to add a line item to.

  2. In the Sort by eCPM Target or Auto - eCPM (Backfill) section, select Add Line Item.

  3. Select AppLovin, and then select Next.

  4. Map line items to the Ad Source.

    1. Add your App's Package Name.

      Note: To locate the Package Name, navigate to the AppLovin dashboard > Applications.
    2. Enter a line item name.

      Note: For more information on naming convention best practices, see Ensure standardized line syntax.
    3. Enter the Zone ID.

      Note: To find the AppLovin Zone ID, navigate to the AppLovin dashboard > Zones.
    4. Set an eCPM target that reflects the estimated price expected from the Ad Source.

      Note: The eCPM target is only for defining the order in which ad networks are called, and has no role in the acceptance or rejection of an ad due to a price point.
  5. Select Save.
