# Change authentication mode

> Change the authentication mode for your clients.

Change the authentication mode for your Unity Version Control (UVCS) clients. For more information about authentication modes, refer to [Introduction to authentication modes](./authentication-modes.md).

To change your authentication mode:

1. Sign in to the [server administration console](../webadmin/access-webadmin).
2. Select **Change auth mode**, and then select a new authentication mode:
   * [Local name](./local-user-auth.md#local-name-mode)
   * [Name and ID](./local-user-auth.md#name-and-id-mode)
   * [LDAP](./ldap-auth.md)
   * [Active Directory](./active-directory-auth.md)
   * [User and password](./user-password-auth.md)
   * [SAML](./saml/landing.md)
3. Select **Apply**.
4. Configure the new authentication mode:
   * For [Local name](./local-user-auth.md#local-name-mode), [Name and ID](./local-user-auth.md#name-and-id-mode), and [Active Directory](./active-directory-auth.md), you don't need a specific configuration.
   * For [LDAP](./ldap-auth.md), configure the required data to establish the connection, advanced connection, and security settings. You can also configure [advanced features](../webadmin/advanced-config) if you want to use groups.
   * For [User and password](./user-password-auth.md), manage the users and groups that the UVCS server identifies.
   * For [SAML](./saml/landing.md), configure the server with the details from your Microsoft Entra ID app registration. For instructions, refer to [Configure the server for SAML authentication](./saml/configure-server.md).
