# Installation

> Install Self-Hosted Deployment for the first time

You deploy Self-Hosted Deployment on your own Kubernetes cluster with the shdctl command-line tool.

Unlike the AWS Terraform and Azure Marketplace packages, Self-Hosted Deployment uses shdctl to manage the entire release lifecycle, from pulling releases and syncing container images to generating secrets and deploying Helm charts or ArgoCD applications.

> **Important:**
>
> Unity doesn't install Self-Hosted Deployment for you. Your IT organization or solutions integrator performs the installation steps in the pages listed below and operates the deployment after rollout. For the full delivery model, refer to the [Self-Hosted Deployment overview](/self-hosted-deployment/shd.md).

For the first installation, follow this workflow:

[Overview of the infrastructure](/self-hosted-deployment/shd/installation/infrastructure.md): Learn about the infrastructure requirements and what the deployment creates.
[Hardware requirements](/self-hosted-deployment/shd/installation/hardware-requirements.md): Plan the physical infrastructure for a baseline production deployment.
[1. Prerequisites](/self-hosted-deployment/shd/installation/prerequisites.md): Ensure that you have the required configuration, tooling, and permissions.
[2. Deployment](/self-hosted-deployment/shd/installation/deployment.md): Pull, configure, and deploy the solution using shdctl.
[3. Postdeployment](/self-hosted-deployment/shd/installation/postdeployment.md): Perform the initial configuration of the identity subsystem.
[shdctl reference](/self-hosted-deployment/shdctl.md): Use the shdctl command-line tool to deploy and manage releases. Includes command reference, manifest schema, architecture, and security guidance.
[Costs](/self-hosted-deployment/shd/installation/costs.md): Estimate the hardware investment and operating costs.
