## Definition

* **Type:** Method
* **Namespace:** [Unity.Localization](/engine/6000.7/script-reference/unity/localization.md)
* **Assembly:** UnityEngine.LocalizationRuntimeModule

```csharp
Locale GetStartupLocale(LocalizationSettings settings)
```

### Parameters

**** (\[LocalizationSettings]\(/engine/6000.7/script-reference/unity/localization/localizationsettings)): The localization settings whose locales the selector chooses from.

### Returns

| Type                                                                   | Description                                                                                    |
| ---------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| [Locale](/engine/6000.7/script-reference/unity/localization/locale.md) | The locale to use as the startup locale, or null to let the next selector in the chain decide. |

### Remarks

Look a locale up on `settings` with [LocalizationSettings.GetLocale](/engine/6000.7/script-reference/unity/localization/localizationsettings/getlocale.md). A disabled locale returned here is skipped during startup selection, so the next selector runs instead.
