# SetAreaEnabled(ProfilerArea, bool)

> Enable or disable a given ProfilerArea.

## Definition

* **Type:** Method
* **Namespace:** [UnityEngine.Profiling](/engine/6000.6/script-reference/unityengine/profiling.md)
* **Assembly:** UnityEngine.CoreModule

```csharp
[Conditional("ENABLE_PROFILER")]
public static void SetAreaEnabled(ProfilerArea area, bool enabled)
```

### Parameters

**** (\[ProfilerArea]\(/engine/6000.6/script-reference/unityengine/profiling/profilerarea)): The area you want to enable or disable.**** (\[bool]\(https\://learn.microsoft.com/dotnet/api/system.boolean)): Enable or disable the collection of data for this area.

### Remarks

Disable an area to stop it emitting stats and samples. Disabling areas that you are not interested in is a way to reduce profiler overhead. If you turn an area back on after you profile a frame with a disabled [ProfilerArea](/engine/6000.6/script-reference/unityengine/profiling/profilerarea.md), this only turns on collection for subsequent frames.

To disable or enable an area, close or open the corresponding chart in the [ProfilerWindow](/engine/6000.6/script-reference/unityeditor/profilerwindow.md), or call this method.

**Note**: If the [ProfilerWindow](/engine/6000.6/script-reference/unityeditor/profilerwindow.md) is open when starting to profile, it will override the enabled/disabled areas to reflect which charts are open at the time.

To query the current state of an area, use [Profiler.GetAreaEnabled](/engine/6000.6/script-reference/unityengine/profiling/profiler/getareaenabled.md).

Setting [ProfilerArea.CPU](/engine/6000.6/script-reference/unityengine/profiling/profilerarea/cpu.md) is essentially the same as setting [Profiler.enabled](/engine/6000.6/script-reference/unityengine/profiling/profiler/enabled.md), since some other areas depend on CPU sample collection and it is also handling the frame ticks.
