# Transcode your video files

> Follow these steps to learn how to transcode your video files.

To enable transcoding for your video files, you need to change the settings in the Video Clip Importer settings. Follow these steps:

## Access and configure the transcoding settings

To transcode your video files:

1. Select your [video clip asset](/engine/6000.6/manual/video/sources/clips-use.md). The Inspector window shows the **Video Clip Import Settings**.
2. Enable **Transcode**.
3. Configure the transcoding settings in the [Video Clip Import Settings](/engine/6000.6/manual/video/sources/class-video-clip.md#transcode-options).
4. Once you're satisfied with your settings, select **Apply**.

Unity transcodes your video file with your new settings.
