# Set up a project for 2D games with the Universal 2D template

> Set up a project to create a 2D game.

Create a project with the Universal 2D template. The template automatically installs the [2D feature set](/engine/6000.5/manual/packages-list/feature-sets/2dfeature.md) collection of packages, giving you a suite of tools and features specifically designed to support 2D game development.

Follow these steps:

1. [Create a new project that uses URP](/engine/6000.5/manual/render-pipelines/universal-render-pipeline/introduction/installing-and-configuring-urp/creating-a-urp-project/creating-a-new-project-with-urp.md). Select the Universal 2D template.
2. Install [optional packages](#Optional2DPackages) you need for your project.

The following are the packages included by default when you select the Universal 2D template.
