# Using the Built-In Render Pipeline

> Use the default render pipeline, a general purpose render pipeline with limited options for customization.

> **Important:**
>
> The Built-In Render Pipeline is deprecated and will be made obsolete in a future release.
>
> It remains supported, including bug fixes and maintenance, through the full Unity 6.7 LTS lifecycle.
>
> For more information on migration, refer to [Migrating from the Built-In Render Pipeline to the Universal Render Pipeline](/engine/6000.5/manual/render-pipelines/universal-render-pipeline/introduction/installing-and-configuring-urp/upgrading-from-birp.md.md) and [Render pipeline feature comparison](/engine/6000.5/manual/render-pipelines/choose-a-render-pipeline/feature-comparison.md.md).

Unity's Built-in Render Pipeline is Unity's older render pipeline. It's not based on the Scriptable Render Pipeline, but you can configure it by choosing between different [rendering paths](/engine/6000.5/manual/render-pipelines/built-in-render-pipeline/built-in-rendering-paths/rendering-paths.md), and extend its functionality with [command buffers](/engine/6000.5/manual/render-pipelines/built-in-render-pipeline/graphics-command-buffers/buffers.md) and [callbacks](/engine/6000.5/manual/scripting/managing-update-order/execution-order.md).
