# Cookie texture Import Settings window reference

> Explore the settings for a default texture.

> **Important:**
>
> The Built-In Render Pipeline is deprecated and will be made obsolete in a future release.
>
> It remains supported, including bug fixes and maintenance, through the full Unity 6.7 LTS lifecycle.
>
> For more information on migration, refer to [Migrating from the Built-In Render Pipeline to the Universal Render Pipeline](/engine/6000.5/manual/render-pipelines/universal-render-pipeline/introduction/installing-and-configuring-urp/upgrading-from-birp.md.md) and [Render pipeline feature comparison](/engine/6000.5/manual/render-pipelines/choose-a-render-pipeline/feature-comparison.md.md).

The **Cookie** texture type formats the texture asset so it's suitable to use as a light cookie in the Built-in Render Pipeline. For this texture type, Unity updates the [Texture Shape](/engine/6000.5/manual/materials-and-shaders/textures/textures-reference/class-texture-importer.md#textureshape) automatically based on the [Light Type](#light-type) you select:

* **Directional Light** and **Spot Light** cookies use the **2D** shape.
* **Point Light** cookies use the **Cube** shape.

## Light Type

The **Light Type** property defines the light type that the editor applies the light cookie to. The different light types have different properties that have different recommended setup for the best effect.

| Property | Description |
| -------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Light Type** | Select a light type from the dropdown options:**Spot Light****Directional Light****Point Light** |

#### Spot Light

When you select this light type, Unity sets the **Wrap Mode** to **Clamp** by default. It's recommended that you set the edges of the light cookie texture asset to solid black for the proper light effect.

#### Directional Light

When you select this light type, Unity sets the **Wrap Mode** to **Repeat** by default and the light cookie texture tiles.

> **Note:**
>
> You can apply a cookie formatted for the Spot Light or Directional Light type to a Directional Light, but both have different effects. The Directional Light will repeat the Directional Light type in a tiled pattern, but will only project the Spot Light type cookie once.

#### Point Light

When you select this light type, you can customize the [Cube shape-specific](/engine/6000.5/manual/materials-and-shaders/textures/textures-reference/class-texture-importer.md#textureshape) texture properties.

## Properties

The following are the other Cookie texture type property settings.

In addition, you can use the [Platform-specific overrides](/engine/6000.5/manual/materials-and-shaders/textures/textures-reference/class-texture-importer.md.md#platform) panel to set default options and overrides for specific platforms.
