# OnMouseDown()

> OnMouseDown is called when the user presses the left mouse button while over the Collider.

## Definition

* **Type:** Method
* **Namespace:** [UnityEngine](/engine/6000.3/script-reference/unityengine.md)

```csharp
public void OnMouseDown()
```

### Remarks

This event is sent to all scripts of the GameObject with [Collider](/engine/6000.3/script-reference/unityengine/collider.md). Scripts of the parent or child objects do not receive this event. When multiple cameras are present, to determine if the mouse is over a collider, Unity uses the camera that is rendering to the screen where the mouse is. For most cases, this is [Camera.main](/engine/6000.3/script-reference/unityengine/camera/main.md), but with multiple cameras or custom setups it might differ. If you need more control, use [Camera.ScreenPointToRay](/engine/6000.3/script-reference/unityengine/camera/screenpointtoray.md) with a specific camera and perform your own raycasts in scripts. This function is not called on objects that belong to Ignore Raycast layer. This function is called on Colliders and 2D Colliders marked as trigger when the following properties are set to true: - For 3D physics: [Physics.queriesHitTriggers](/engine/6000.3/script-reference/unityengine/physics/querieshittriggers.md) - For 2D physics: [Physics2D.queriesHitTriggers](/engine/6000.3/script-reference/unityengine/physics2d/querieshittriggers.md) `OnMouseDown` can be a [coroutine](/engine/6000.3/manual/scripting/object-oriented-development/coroutines-section/coroutines.md). **Note**: New projects created with this version of Unity are pre-configured to use a version of the Input System that doesn't support this callback. To support this callback in your project, change the **Active Input Handling** setting in [Player settings](/engine/6000.3/manual/unity-editor/editor-settings-reference/comp-manager-group/class-player-settings.md) to either **Both** or **Input Manager (Old)**. Using the old Input Manager alone is not recommended for new projects. For more information, refer to [Input](/engine/6000.3/script-reference/unityengine/input.md).

### Examples

```csharp
using UnityEngine;
public class ExampleClass : MonoBehaviour
{
    void OnMouseDown()
    {
        // Destroy the gameObject after clicking on it
        Destroy(gameObject);
    }
}
```
