# GetInfoString()

> Implement this method to show asset information on top of the asset preview.

## Definition

* **Type:** Method
* **Namespace:** [UnityEditor](/engine/6000.3/script-reference/unityeditor.md)
* **Assembly:** UnityEditor

```csharp
public virtual string GetInfoString()
```

### Returns

| Type                                                           | Description |
| -------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------- |
| [string](https://learn.microsoft.com/dotnet/api/system.string) |             |

### Remarks

You will also have to implement [Editor.HasPreviewGUI()](/engine/6000.3/script-reference/unityeditor/editor/haspreviewgui.md) and [Editor.OnPreviewGUI](/engine/6000.3/script-reference/unityeditor/editor/onpreviewgui.md) in addition to this method. The default implementation just returns an empty string, which disables the feature.

**Note:** Inspector previews are limited to the primary editor of persistent objects (assets). For example, GameObjectInspector, MaterialEditor, TextureInspector, and so on. This means that it is currently not possible for a component to have its own inspector preview.
