# SetCategoryEnabled(ProfilerCategory, bool)

> Enable or disable a given ProfilerCategory.

## Definition

* **Type:** Method
* **Namespace:** [UnityEngine.Profiling](/engine/6000.0/script-reference/unityengine/profiling.md)
* **Assembly:** UnityEngine.CoreModule

```csharp
[Conditional("ENABLE_PROFILER")]
public static void SetCategoryEnabled(ProfilerCategory category, bool enabled)
```

### Parameters

**** (\[ProfilerCategory]\(/engine/6000.0/script-reference/unity/profiling/profilercategory)): The category you want to enable or disable.**** (\[bool]\(https\://learn.microsoft.com/dotnet/api/system.boolean)): Enable or disable the collection of data for this category.

### Remarks

Disable a category to stop it from emitting stats and samples. Disabling categories that you are not interested in is a way to reduce the Profiler overhead. If you turn a category back on after you profile a frame with a disabled [ProfilerCategory](/engine/6000.0/script-reference/unity/profiling/profilercategory.md), this only turns on collection for subsequent frames.

**Note**: If the [ProfilerWindow](/engine/6000.0/script-reference/unityeditor/profilerwindow.md) is open when starting to profile, it will override the enabled/disabled categories to reflect which charts are open at the time.

To query the current state of a category, use [Profiler.IsCategoryEnabled](/engine/6000.0/script-reference/unityengine/profiling/profiler/iscategoryenabled.md).
