# View Materials Override

> View the material channels assigned to a 3D asset.

Use Materials Override to inspect a 3D model in the Asset Manager viewer without changing the original asset’s materials. Material channels are baked into the model as a single texture. This enables efficient rendering and ensures a consistent appearance across environments.

You can inspect the following material channels in the Asset Manager viewer:

| Material Channel | Description |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------- |
| [**Albedo**](https://docs.unity3d.com/6000.4/Documentation/Manual/StandardShaderMaterialParameterAlbedoColor.html) | Defines the base color of the surface. |
| [**Emission**](https://docs.unity3d.com/6000.4/Documentation/Manual/StandardShaderMaterialParameterEmission.html) | Controls light emitted by the material. |
| [**Metalness**](https://docs.unity3d.com/6000.4/Documentation/Manual/StandardShaderMaterialParameterMetallic.html) | Determines how metallic the surface appears. |
| [**Normal map**](https://docs.unity3d.com/6000.4/Documentation/Manual/StandardShaderMaterialParameterNormalMap.html) | Adds surface detail without increasing geometry. |
| [**Occlusion map**](https://docs.unity3d.com/6000.4/Documentation/Manual/StandardShaderMaterialParameterOcclusionMap.html) | Simulates shadowed areas to enhance depth. |
| [**Opacity**](https://docs.unity3d.com/6000.4/Documentation/Manual/StandardShaderTransparency.html) | Adjusts the transparency of the surface. |
| [**Roughness**](https://docs.unity3d.com/6000.4/Documentation/Manual/StandardShaderMetallicVsSpecular.html) | Controls how shiny or matte the material appears. |
| [**UV checkerboard**](https://docs.unity3d.com/6000.4/Documentation/Manual/LightingGiUvs.html) | Displays the UV layout to debug textures. |

## Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you meet the following requirements:

* You have the **Consumer** or higher role in the Asset Manager project.
* Your asset is a **3D model**.

## Inspect material channels in the viewer

1. Select an asset. The side panel opens.
2. At the bottom of the panel, expand the **Preview** section to open the viewer.
3. Select the sphere icon to open the **Materials Override** side panel.
4. Select the material you want to view.

The material you select appears in the viewer.
